Found this interesting, its an interview with VS marketing manager from start to pretty much finish.
Reveals abit of info on the internal going ons at UDE and answers some of the questions i always had regarding the rise and fall of VS. Its a good listen to if you ever cared about VS as a game instead of a cash cow at any point in time. Part 1 Part 2

Hey there,
I'm currently clearing out my old hobbies at the moment and I have a number of comics which I am willing to give away to any comics collector to keep, collect and read and NOT to sell. Not that comics are worth anything anyway these days. Most of these are from the early to late 90s I believe and they are mostly Marvel. I'm keeping the good stuff, namely DC and Udon. From memory some of the stuff includes Avengers Xmen Uncanny Xmen Silver Surfer Darkhawk (Entire run or close to it) Secret Defenders What Ifs Thor Thunderstrike Quasar (Entire run. Maybe. If I can bear to part with this.) Also have Operation Galactic Storm Executioners Song Infinity Gauntlet Infinity War Infinity Crusade Spiderman 30th Anniversary 4 issue holo cover. Secret Wars TPB (Its as thick as a text book) A handful of Birds of Prey (From when writer Gail Simone starts) One of the best runs imho Some of the stuff around Supermans death. Justice League Europe Hawk and Dove complete run (This was a good series until near the end) Some Amalgam one shots You're probably wondering what I am keeping JLA entire run (These are going to be buried with me when I go) All the Udon comics (Streetfighter and Darkstalkers) Armageddon 2001 storyline (Something like 10 DC annuals) Marvel Vs DC (Yes I know this is a shocker but still) JLA/Avengers (Not as bad as the above but a missed opportunity. Batman and Cap lightly taps each others hands and feet and they call that a draw. Weak Sauce) Voltron Anway I'm in Sydney, so if anyone is interested let me know. If you are from another state, I'm happy for you to pay shipping for it. Any unwanted VS commons, uncommons and rares from Legion, Marvel Team Up, Worlds Finest, Marvel legends and DC Legends glaldy accepted.

I'm not sure in what context this is in..ie last month, last 3 months or last 6 months but apparently...
Here are the top 10 selling CCG's right now: 1. Magic 2. Yu-Gi-Oh 3. UFS 4. Pokemon 5. VS 6. Fullmetal Alchemist 7. WWE Raw Deal 8. Naruto 9. L5R 10. Clout Fantasy I think the problem with VS is it has a very cut throat type of scene. Casual players and "fun decks" is non existent and the buy in to VS? Playset of EoME, which is just retarded, as is the card. This card was only printed because barely half the teams ever released were considered not playable competitvely, so UDE released this under the guise of it will give you more options. This is to cover up that alot of teams just dont work when you play single team decks even when committing the deck to the teams strategy. Ironically VS pays out the most but with whats happened to Europe it really makes me nervous what the Pro circuit / 10K schedule is for next year especially for Australia. It would seem for a game to sell well, a casual scene needs to be established whether it is thru 1. kiddie/fanboy licensing 2. good support for local organised play 3. card pool/game mechanics that allow for fun/semi competitive games Right now VS has maybe the first point. But for a superhero game there was and still no Spiderman deck, no Batman deck, no Superman deck...xmen barely scraped in this category with pheonix stall and now mental. Its not really making good use of the licensing. Ofcourse with WoW coming next month this will shake things up whether it has $$ tournaments or not. If it sells well is that going to effect VS even more in terms of player base and support? |
